About the role:
The Director for EH&S is responsible for implementation and oversight of all aspects of HSE for the company including shared responsibilities for Sustainability and Risk Management.
This role is accountable to executive leadership for overseeing the implementation of a Corporate HSE Management system globally.
Responsibilities
- Directs, develops and coaches world-class preventative behavioral-based HSE professionals within each business unit.
- Monitors their comprehension of the HSE Management system and business objectives.
- Sets metrics, measures, and reports out on a consistent basis.
- Builds best practices around HSE at all our locations.
- Is passionate to achieve world class safety records in all our locations, globally.
- Creates long term HSE strategies including proactive performance measurements for evaluating business performance.
- Manages business HSE Management Handbook-Systems including proactive audit processes.
- Ensures each business strives toward world class performance through implementation of corporate safety standards, and each business is evaluated and scored in their execution of this process.
- Implements programs to control hazards, business expansion evaluations, employee investigations and crisis management.
- Outlines strategies to identify and control business risks, including planning long-term business objectives and controlling liabilities.
- Develops facilities risk mitigation playbook and implements across the business, including detailed plans in the event of natural disaster, people/governing-driven occurrences, and unforeseen incidences harming employees or the business.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
- Ensures completion of required country of origin OSHA-EPA guidelines, policies, laws, record keeping and reporting.
- Reviews all incident investigations and reports.
- Ensures root causes are determined.
- Develops and shares effective actions to prevent reoccurrence with all locations.
- Coordinates and leads site safety and health inspections and environmental, audits, assessments, and industrial hygiene surveys to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and best practices, as well as established corporate procedures and requirements.
- Cooperates with plants to identify short and long-term program plans.
- Develops and maintains strong relationships across the organization.
- Develops EHS management staff; sets goals in training and development, performance, and career planning.
- Plays a consultative role focusing on projects which have significant and aggressive future growth potential and involve advanced technology.
- Provides written reports of safety issues/ results to senior management periodically or as requested.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Minimum Requirement:
- A bachelor's degree in industrial engineering or safety/environmental management or a related field and 10+ years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
- 5+ years of experience managing a team.
- Direct work experience interacting with regulatory agencies and/or compliance officers is required. Working knowledge of federal, state, and local health and safety, and environmental regulations is required.
- Experience with ISO 9001, Six Sigma, and/or Lean Manufacturing experience required.
- Knowledge of functional safety including risk assessment tools such as HAZOP and LOPA preferred.
- Customer and Personal Service (service minded) - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Administration and Management - knowledge of business and management principles involved in P&L management, human resources staffing and evaluation, leadership technique and coordination of people and resources.
- Engineering and Technology - Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
- Personnel and Human Resources expertise - Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, learning and development, compensation and benefits, labor relations and negotiation, and personnel information systems.
- Contract Management - Knowledge of development and management of contracts; contract terms and conditions, understanding of contract language and ability to review for meaning and accuracy.
- Prior experience in the Manufacturing, Engineering or Commercial Industrial industry experience is helpful.
Licensing/Certifications
- Any certifications related to the experience section are helpful.
